“Julie is an invaluable addition to any faculty. Most importantly, she is a student of the work…This is by far, her greatest gift, to allow others to teach her.”

In addition to her specializations in ensemble and devised performance practice, Julie combines academic inquiry with her professional experience to create innovative curriculum for scene study, text analysis, dramaturgy and voice. Julie draws upon her expertise in movement and improvisation techniques in order to infuse her lecture-based courses with a sense of play. Whether teaching upper division courses within a Theatre Arts BA program, multi-disciplinary collaboration classes with BFA & MFA students of Performance and Design or foundation level coursework within a Liberal Arts context, Julie is dedicated to a learn-by-doing approach of both performance theory and practice. Her classrooms encourage active curiosity, diversity of thought and experience, and an active practice of Growth Mindset. Julie fosters the creation of Brave Spaces where risk and failure are celebrated as necessary parts of the creative process. In every learning space Julie endeavors to educate the kind of makers she would be proud to call future collaborators and fellow citizens.
